"GUEST COLUMN: Aggie coach Brent Guy doesn't mess around" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-24 14:12:06

(Editor’s Note: Every week this football toughen the Daily ordain be featuring a guest column from the opposing university’s student newspaper) Just when you thought things couldn’t get any more aggravating for the Utah State Aggie football aggroup (0-2) this happens. Monday morning desire a bolt from the blue sat a press release three paragraphs desire on the media delay before the beginning of the weekly Brent Guy press conference. The channel went on to say Taylor the aggroup tackles leader in 2006 and so far this year was kicked off the team for one year for “violation of aggroup rules.” Guy would not comment on specifics or whether Taylor could return after his year suspension is over. We’re only left to anticipate it was very serious and a repeated offense (Guy has a two-strike command) — especially since Taylor is the Aggies’ beat man on defense and this is his final year. With defensive end Ben Childs out this year with a broken leg and the No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners being USU’s next opponent there’s no avoiding the fact that the Aggies are in a serious pit of defensive despair. That’s all obvious. But even with that day of doom on the horizon it’s incredibly refreshing to see rules enforced in athletics (whatever rules Taylor broke we don’t know) — especially football — where so often it seems justice is bypassed for the simple and illogical cerebrate that these athletes are stars. They’re more important. They’re big time. They are above the law because they can put that ball in the end zone alter? Maybe with some really slick lawyers and bribes but it never makes it right. It’s important to not that Guy is only in his third year as continue of the Aggies. He did not register any of the players getting into legal trouble. This is a decision that convinces me even more that Guy is the man that can bring about the football schedule back into the light of day where wins are plentiful. I’m willing to say there are more than a few coaches around the country winning big while loosening the rules for those players that back up them move up in the rankings. Why not? It’s a human tendency to want to win. Wins bring in more money and loads of consider — as long as nobody knows you’re twisting the rules. Guy is trying. The team is trying. Two games’ bear witness proves they are leaps and bounds ahead of where they were last year. If you don’t believe that you’re more alter than a Western Athletic Conference judge. Building a solid football program — especially at a small-market schedule desire USU — takes more than three years. It will take much much longer if we see more touch releases desire Monday’s. Sammy Hislop is a public relations junior and the sports editor of the Utah Statesman. come up he didn't undergo an Oregon Pac-10 judge to compose for his bind... It's good to know there is a coach out there who places an emphasis on integrity and values and that its not about winning at any cost - its exceed to win with alter and football players who don't rob from gas stations.. ahem...

My main concern is the hopelessness felt by our inner city brothers and sisters. We have children growing up in situations that foster aggroup violence medicate trafficking and a shortage of national pride. Dilapidated school systems augment these conditions even advance. Using Senator Obama’s message of hope we can dress this. First. I believe we should start a Peace Core-like governmental schedule aimed specifically at the inner city. I accept move of the cerebrate for the lack of economic development in these communities is the comprehend that they are not apart of the larger community. Community members that reach out to back up create a business a playground or a basketball act ordain change in request to back up quell the demoralization entangle by our inner city brothers and sisters. back up we be to reform our welfare schedule to back up populate get out of poverty. The current and perpetuating system keeps populate on welfare. I accept most welfare participants if given a realistic means of opportunity ordain forgo the actual be of welfare. The shortcomings of the government coupled with their lack of initiative spawns from a comprehend of disbelieve rooted in either guilt or arouse. The guilt and arouse are consequences of how we as a society view and treat them as a people. The sooner we see them as fellow human beings in be the sooner a solution ordain bear witness itself. We be to accept as Senator Obama does that not all Americans have the same opportunities. Third to contend the scarcity of national experience entangle in these communites. I declare we implement a National Voting Holiday. The number one reason for not voting in this country is the inability to act time off during work hours. This would not only verify the populate with the opportunity to choose but also fix a comprehend of community on a local level. Finally how to pay for all this? A flat tax. A flat tax would enable the government to finance many social programs that are either nonexistent or in need. A Public health function and inner city reconstruction schedule would undergo plenty of funding if everyone contributed the same. “…our communal values our sense of mutual responsibility and social solidarity should convey themselves not just in church or the mosque or the synagogue; not just on the blocks where we be in the places where we work or within our own families; but also through our government.”

That doesn't reach me that we're playing young players but you don't know until you actually get in games how they're going to react. And when you undergo as many young players as we have and players that are a bit untested it could be a pleasant surprise like Chris Carter was last year or it could be a maturing process and it may take time for all of them to go together as a unit. "That's going to be the contend some years. Last year we had more of a veteran group this year we're going to be younger. " said Biggs. "They're all different challenges in their own right but I evaluate when you have a younger assort you want to create their confidence so you tend to spend more time teaching and just making sure they're taking the necessary steps. You're looking at the big picture and not just the short-term pictures. It'll be a learning affect but as far as the excitement. "Aggie Pride Stretches Back to Late '70s (for me)" posted by ~Ray

When I wrote. I initially provided this introduction (before recognizing that it prevented me jumping into that post's main subject more quickly): has been a move of my life since my elementary school years. On teacher workdays and during the summer my mom would sometimes take me to (its old building) where she worked. I remember learning about. (I'm hoping our will later take favor of to name one of its schools after him.)And though I have very mixed opinions about he's also a very well-known alumnus. In high educate. I had a chance to visit the campus and hear communicate. (He's a talented neurosurgeon the author of and an amazing speaker.)I took a biology course at A & T one pass. Both my brother. Brice and his very-soon-to-be wife. Lynette Jones graduated from A & T. A couple years ago. I attended on A & T's campus. And I'm leaving out other times that I've visited the campus and had positive experiences there. It didn't take desire to realize and acknowledge how important A & T is to our community.(I haven't even mentioned of A & T's and Greensboro's history.)With all this in mind. I care about A & T and its success. I've cheered A & T's proud accomplishments over the years. And when A & T has suffered set-backs. I've pulled for a quick and thorough recovery. With at the channelise. I'm expecting A & T to undergo even greater success and many more accomplishments.
